Friendly Farming

Jinshan Caitian Rice

To protect environmental quality and ensure sustainable living space for future generations, while encouraging farmers to integrate agriculture with ecological practices, the Agriculture Bureau began promoting friendly farming in 2015. It also actively invited young farmers to participate, aiming to expand both the area of friendly farmland and the number of participating farmers in New Taipei City. To help achieve sustainable farmland management and improve both the quality and quantity of agricultural production, the Agriculture Bureau supports the application process for environmentally friendly farming promotion groups and the Green Conservation Label. These ongoing efforts have gained external recognition. Some groups have signed contract farming agreements with Jinshan farmers, acknowledging the value of Jinshan’s friendly farming practices. As a result, friendly products such as “Caitian Rice” have been introduced to the market for consumers to purchase.

With existing farmland as the basis for promotion, subsidies and assistance are provided to help farmers adopt friendly farming. By using designated friendly agricultural zones as core areas and gradually expanding outward, a specialized friendly farming zone can be formed. The goal is to encourage farmer-led management and achieve sustainable farming.

Tianliaoyang – A Stopover for Migratory Birds

The Tianliaoyang area in Gongliao District is a key rice-producing region in the northeastern part of the city and also an important stopover for migratory birds in winter. Over 340 bird species have been recorded here.

Since 2021, the Agriculture Bureau has assisted the Ruifang Farmers' Association in guiding local farmers to switch to friendly farming practices. It has also launched the “Xin-Niao Dao-Zhan” (Magpie-Robin Arrival) brand and introduced “Yufeng Rice,” a friendly rice product. Consumers, businesses, and retailers who support eco-friendly farming and waterbird conservation are warmly encouraged to purchase or collaborate. By enjoying delicious and healthy rice, you can support farmers in transitioning toward more sustainable and environmentally friendly field management.
