Pomelo

Citrus fruits dominate New Taipei City’s fruit production, with pomelo being the main product.

Pomelo is rich in nutrients, low in calories, and high in vitamin C and dietary fiber. It is primarily produced in the districts of Bali, Tamsui, Wugu, Xizhi, Linkou, and Xindian.

Thanks to the sodium ions from sea breezes and the mineral-rich volcanic soil, New Taipei pomelos are known for their bouncy flesh, strong fragrance, and a perfect balance of sweetness with a hint of acidity, making them irresistibly delicious.

Harvesting usually begins after the “White Dew” solar term and peaks before the Mid-Autumn Festival, making pomelos a seasonal favorite for the holiday.

After harvest, they are stored for a period to allow some moisture to evaporate and the peel to soften, making them better for consumption—a process referred to in Taiwanese as “sio-tsuí” (消水).

Related products include: heart-shaped pomelos, pomelo blossom hydrating mist, pomelo soy sauce paste, pomelo vinaigrette, pomelo tea, pomelo-flavored fried chicken, pomelo pork knuckle, and pomelo latte.
